Joseph Powell was a landscape painter who exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1796.  He was the first President of the New Watercolour Society in 1832.

 

He was a popular drawing master and made many sketching tours in most parts of England, painting on the South Coast, the Welsh Marshes, the Lake District and elsewhere.  He produced a number of etchings and lithographs and filled many sketch books with figures and animals.

 

Examples of work by Joseph Powell is in the British Museum, the Grosvenor Museum, Chester City Art Gallery and Manchester City Art Gallery.
