George
James Knox was a painter of landscapes and coastal scenes, in watercolour. He lived in London and exhibited his work from
1839 to 1859 at the Royal Academy, the British Institute and
the Suffolk Street Galleries. Subjects
included views of the Isle of Wight, Lundy Island and the Thames. Titles at the Royal Academy include “View near
Periguex” and “On the Thames near Putney”. Examples of work by George James
Knox are in Capetown Art Gallery.
