Margaret Ross Hislop was a painter in oil, watercolour and
pastel. She was born in Edinburgh where she lived throughout
her life. She studied at the Edinburgh College of Fine Art from 1917 and was
married to the Artist Andrew Healey Hislop. In 1950 she became an Associate of
the Royal Scottish Academy rising to full Membership
in 1964. She was also a Member of the
Royal Society of British Artists and the Society of Scottish Artists. Her work was exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Academy, the Royal Glasgow
Institute of the Fine Arts, the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in
Watercolour, the Scottish Society of Women Artists, the Society of Scottish
Artists, the Royal Society of British
Artists and the New English Art Club.
Her work was also reproduced in the Studio
magazine. Work by Margaret Hislop may be found in the public collections of the
Arts Council of Scotland, Edinburgh Gallery, Glasgow Corporation, Dundee Art Gallery and in Australia.
