Ronald Ossary Dunlop was a painter in oil of figure subjects, portraits,  landscapes and still life. Born on 28th June 1894 in Dublin he was educated in Saffron Walden, Essex.  He worked for an advertising agency from the age of 19 but after the 1914-18 War he abandoned this for painting.  He attended evening classes at the Wimbledon School of Art and also studied in Manchester and Paris.  In 1923 he founded the Emotionist Group of Writers and Artists. In 1929 he was elected Member of the Royal Society of British Artists, followed by Membership of the London Group in 1934, the New English Art Club in 1936 and Associate Membership of the Royal Academy in 1939, rising to full Member in 1950. His first one-man show was held at the Redfern Gallery in 1928 and he also exhibited at Agnew and Sons Gallery, Beaux Arts Gallery, Barbizon House, Brook Street Art Gallery, Colnaghi and Co. Galleries, Cooling and Sons Gallery, Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Goupil Gallery, Walker Art Gallery Liverpool, Lefevre Gallery, Leicester Gallery, Manchester City Art Gallery, the New English Art Club, the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Hibernian Academy, the Royal Scottish Academy and Arthur Tooth and Sons Gallery. In 1937 the Chantry Bequest purchased Lifeboat Walberswick, followed by Rosalind Iden as Ophelia in 1940. Ronald Ossary Dunlop is represented in many public collections, including the Tate Gallery and was the author of several books on art.  He lived for many years at Barnham, Sussex and died on 18th May 1973.
